Teaching 2 : How To Please God ~ Part I

January 8, 2012

Every believer should sincerely want to please the Lord. One way we know that we are saved is that we love the Lord and want to please Him. The Apostle Paul made it his ambition to be well-pleasing to the Lord Jesus, Paul wrote,

” Wherefore we labor, that, whether present or absent,

we may be accepted of Him (well-pleasing to Him).”

~ 2 Corinthians 5:9 ~

Here are some ways by which we can please God :

  • We please God when we love Him.

Lord Jesus, to you with my love.

Jesus said that the first and great commandment was to love God with all our heart. If we remember how our sins were forgiven we cannot help loving Him.

God makes seven wonderful promises to those who set their love on Him. See if you can find them in the following verses. Underline each of them. Make these promises personal by putting your name in the places where “he” and “him” are used, God says,

” Because he (Cassandra) has set his/her love upon Me,

therefore will I deliver him (Cassandra):

I will set him (Cassandra) on high,

because he (Cassandra) has known My name.

He (Cassandra) shall call upon Me,

and I will answer him (Cassandra) :

I will be with him (Cassandra) in trouble ;

I will deliver him (Cassandra),

and honor him/her.

With long life will i satisfy him (Cassandra),

and show him (Cassandra) My salvation.”

~ Psalm 91:14 – 16 ~

  • We please the Lord when we worship Him.

God is pleased with true worshippers  —  those who worship Him in spirit and in truth. Jesus said,

” … true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth :

for the Father seeks such to worship Him.”

~ John 4:23 ~

To worship God means to love Him, to honor Him, to reverence Him, to adore Him, and to exalt Him. Worshipping God is a matter of our heart attitude. We need to meet with other believers regularly to worship God, but we also need to worship Him in our heart every day.

  •  We please God when we obey Him.

Obedience is the indispensable condition for God’s blessing upon our life. God cannot possibly be pleased with a person who is not obedient nor can He bestow His blessing upon him. We may talk about loving  the Lord, but if we do not obey Him, we do not really love Him, The Lord Jesus said,

” If a man love Me, he will keep My words:

and My Father will love him,

and We will come unto Him, and make our abode with him.”

John 14:23 ~

  • We please God when we when we trust Him.

God takes pleasure in those who trust Him – those who expect Him to be loving and kind. Without faith , we cannot please Him. The Bible says,

” But without faith it is impossible to please Him:

for he that comes to God must believe that He is,

and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.”

~Hebrews 11:6 ~
